To nurse, or not to nurse: that is not a question!

Hospital breastfeeding initiation rates

leave a comment »

Hospital initiation rates of breastfeeding in the United States are misleading. Many hospitals report any amount of breastmilk feeding as successful breastfeeding initiation. This gives an impression that the hospital is successful in breastfeeding care and support. While it may be successful in lactation care and support with the use of breastpumps, mothers leave US hospitals failing to breastfeed.

Misleading definitions and statistical measures obscure failings of US birth interventions and lead to a false belief that interventionist high-tech birth can be remedied by interventionist high-tech lactation care.
