American Academy of Pediatrics sent the publication “Checklists for Breastfeeding Health Supervision” to all the members. The brochure “contains information on recommendations for counseling and management and provides a foundation for developing proficiency in breastfeeding care.”
“The American Academy of Pediatrics identifies breastfeeding as important to preventive health care and believes that enthusiastic support from and involvement of pediatricians in the promotion of breastfeeding is essential to the achievement of optimal infant and child health, growth, and development.”
The breastfeeding community rejoices. The feminist breastfeeding community is in shock. There is not one word “woman” or “women” in the promotional statements of the document. Breastfeeding SUPERVISION is not what women need.
I call breastfeeding community to reject the document as offensive and oppressive to women. Women do not need breastfeeding supervision.
